  • Dr. Layne, I just recently started reading your book, "Igniting a Passion for Reading." I am a high school history teacher. i am surprised at the simplicity of your suggestions. Just displaying the books you read and keeping your log works is interesting to me. I wonder though I read a lot of advanced books on politics, history, etc., and worry that by displaying those books will discourage lower level kids. What would be your suggestion for me? I know I will do some read alouds in my class in the future, probably when I want to introduce them to a new book they will read from in class about some historical event. Thanks for your book. Its an inspiration to me. AJB

  • My 11 year old son LOVES your Paradise series he has finished both books in a matter of a couple of weeks. He is begging me to find out if and/or when there will be a third book in the series. I've never seen him so excited about and invested in reading. Thank you!!!

  • Hi Steve, I saw you speak at the IRC in October. I'm using your idea with the book Q is for Duck for our American Recolution unit in 5th grade. I remembered you using this as an example and couldn't wait to try it. The kids picked up on it eighth away and are loving the project. Anyway, a parent just emailed me concerned that her son was doing the project incorrectly. It made me laugh and I had to share with you. Thanks for the idea!!
