Consultations

Steve's primary work as a consultant focuses on his desire to develop and encourage children and teens to become lifelong readers. His nationally-acclaimed seminars Igniting A Passion for Reading and Reaching Reluctant Readers have provided teachers of all grade levels and content areas with the tools they need to foster the desire in young people to engage in books. If everyone knows how to read and nobody wants to, we’ve not accomplished much.

In Steve's own words: "It's one thing to have the ability to read; it's quite another to choose to use it. Reading is a choice - it always has been. Society offers many provocative choices that are competing for our students’ attention which means that we need to make the choice of reading one that is both attractive and beneficial. Often, educators have been given little or no training in what that looks like in a classroom on a daily basis. That's the purpose of these seminars.

These dynamic seminars are five-six hours in length and can be tailored to specific grade levels K-12 or to specific groups of educators. In the past two years, Steve has presented these seminars in school districts and in conference settings everywhere from Honolulu, Hawaii, to Vancouver, British Columbia. Participants complete the seminars with research-based tools that truly inspire and encourage young people to become lifetime readers

"The evaluations that followed your appearance at our conference were remarkable!"
